Asking and Answering Privately

More or less private rituals tend to happen in conversations when one person asks another for their pronoun. You might initiate a private ritual when someone’s gender expression and/or what you perceive about their body don’t firmly align with your expectations of people in the M box or the F box. I say more or less private because “private” rituals don’t usually happen in total privacy. We generally don’t lead someone down the hall and around the corner to ask them for their pronouns. That would be weird. Rather, the “private” ask happens during an ordinary conversation.
